Sometimes I think there’s a place you’ve just got to know about and my Public Service Announcements (PSAs) will give you the full skinny.
I’ve talked about how I like to listen to podcasts while I run. (Check out my post here.) It captivates me enough that I find myself running longer and – bonus – learning something along the way. While I’m not here to do a full roundup of great podcasts, I do want to let you know about two that I’m currently obsessed with. Since I only listen to podcasts when I run (in any other situation, I find my mind wandering), I prefer podcasts that have episodes around 30 minutes in length. Anything from 25 to 34 minutes is usually good because I can do a 3-4 mile run in that time, my sweet spot. Both of these podcasts fall in that range.
This podcast, recorded from inside the maximum security San Quentin California State Prison, is hosted by an inmate and an artist. Each episode focuses on a different aspect of prison life, from the cafeteria food to conjugal visits, and is explained in shocking detail by the inmates who live there. The stories are often humorous and very honest. It just may change the way you think of the prison system.
Why’d You Push That Button?
This podcast delves into the psychology and science behind the choices we make when we’re dealing with technology. I don’t find myself to be a tech-y person, but when they say tech, they’re really talking about the things that are part of our daily lives, like social media. Episodes analyze why we re-watch our own Instagram stories (guilty), why we creep on people on Venmo, and why we share our Netflix password.
