Somehow, even though I’ve hunkered down with a book every night this week and we’ve both had dinner plans, I still feel like I’ve had a lot of quality family time. It feels like a really good balance. I’m gearing up for a weekend that aims to maintain that balance with a fun date night planned for tomorrow but nada for the rest of the weekend. Also, my allergies are still awful, but have become slightly less offensive, which puts me in a better mood overall.

On Saturday we headed to CT for a surprise 40th birthday party. I haven’t been to a party like this in a while: one in a party room with a dj. We drank, we danced, we laughed, and we got back home by 11:30 so it wasn’t too rough on Sunday morning. It’s so nice to have a big event and an excuse to get a full crew out hanging together.

V requests challah most Fridays, which means I have a lovely little breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings. I got myself set up with a fresh cup of coffee and challah with butter on a paper towel (always on a paper towel, I don’t make the rules), remarked that it felt calm and blissful, and then I realized I have completed the transition to becoming my mother. (There may or may not have been a Kleenex stuffed into the sleeve/pocket of my bathrobe.)

It’s not HOT or anything, but it’s certainly warming up. And that means people are out and about in the park – all the parks. I, for one, am ready.
