PSA: Om Factory

Sometimes I think there’s a place you’ve just got to know about and my Public Service Announcements (PSAs) will give you the full skinny.

On her recent Hawaiian vacay, Rebekah tried her hand (or, legs) at aerial yoga and was excited to do it again once she got back to NYC. Lucky for us, Om Factory is right off Union Square and offers classes in the Cirque de Soleil practice for a mere $25.

The studio is simple but calming, with fabric hanging from the ceiling. I was a bit concerned at what I was getting myself into, but the instructor kept everything light and fun. I couldn’t believe I was actually able to do most of these moves and was happy to feel the slightest soreness in my muscles the next day. I’m not saying this is a hardcore workout, but it’s better than sitting on the couch. I don’t actually enjoy regular yoga, but this version kept me engaged and relaxed (especially the end of the class when you basically cocoon yourself in the fabric). I was surprised how many people were in the studio on a Saturday evening – it was a nice reminder that there are other things you can [sometimes] do with your life than getting boozefaced.
